Real Madrid's hat-trick hero against Athletic Bilbao Cristiano Ronaldo says that his objective is to win the league and not the Pichichi trophy.
Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in los Blancos' 5-1 victory over Bilbao at the Bernabeu in the Spanish Primera Division on Saturday evening. It took the Portugal international's tally to 14 league goals after 12 rounds of the matches, one more than Lionel Messi of Barcelona.
However, Ronaldo says that he scores to help his side win the league title and not for personal glory, and has been quoted by Madrid's official website as saying, "Our two first half goals were important, but we only got better in the second.
"We have a great team and we are very happy. I am also happy that I scored, but all that matters is that we won. I play hard to win the league; winning the Pichichi does not matter to me."
Earlier on Saturday Barcelona defeated Almeria 8-0 away from home to equal a 51-year-old club record for their biggest away victory in La Liga but Ronaldo remains unconcerned and, according to ESPNSoccernet, said, "The 8-0 at Almeria doesn't tell me anything, let's see if they score eight goals against us on Monday."
