Cristiano Ronaldo, the most popular Portuguese soccer star of all-time, has announced that he's now a global ambassador for a company calleed Whoop. Whoop specialise in wearable tech, and although we are yet to find out how much he invested, or how big his stake in the company is, it's rumored that this is one of his biggest investments to date. According to reports, it was Ronaldo himself who reached out to the company and asked them if they'd be willing to accept his investment.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Introducing Whoop:
Since the mobile boom, the portable tech market has rocketed. People don't want to be locked down, and they also want to be able to access what they want, when they want, wherever they are in the world. Since the mobile era began, many major companies have transitioned to make their services, or their products, portable.
An example of this would be bingo games at Paddy Power. Users can access the same Bingo games on their phones, as they can on their desktop devices. Even live bingo games can be played on the go, with the option of triggering free spins as long as the device used is connected to the internet. Some games can even be played on devices like smartwatches, opening the potential for future advancements.
Netflix are another big company that has transitioned. They have made their content very mobile-friendly, with the option of streaming shows and movies on the go. People can also download shows to their mobile phones, so they can be watched even without an internet connection. With advancements like this being very popular with consumers, it’s no surprise that the portable tech market is booming right now, and companies such as Whoop are trying to capitalise on it.
Ronaldo saw quite a lot in Whoop. The company has been active since 2012 and it provides sleep, recovery, and health services. Some of their top investors include UAE61 Capital and the Soft Bank Vision Fund. Ronaldo, who currently plays for Al Nassr, is a five-time winner of the Ballon d'Or, and the UEFA Champions League. He saw potential in the tech due to its portability and niche audience.
He's not the only one who has invested in the product either. You have Patrick Mahomes and Eli Manning. They're both esteemed NFL quarterbacks who saw potential in the tech. You also have Rory McIlroy and Michael Phelps. He's the most decorated Olympian. This could have been a driving factor for him investing in the new tech, as other athletes have done the same and seen great things in the brand. Although the company has openly stated that they are not looking for any more investments right now, they have said that they're very happy with how things are going and that their growth as a company is on a positive track.
They may be open to more investments in the future as the company grows, but right now it is clear that they have done very well by attracting athletes and celebrities, with Ronaldo being the latest one added to their extensive list of investors.
