The Portuguese superstar is also an ardent philanthropist who has dedicated time and money to various charitable causes over the years...
Cristiano Ronaldo - Much more than meets the eye:
One of Ronaldo's foremost philanthropic endeavors has been aiding children in need across the globe. In 2004, he traveled to Indonesia to raise funds in the aftermath of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. He has also been a goodwill ambassador for Save the Children since 2016 and donated his Golden Boot worth €1.5 million to the charity.
In addition, the Manchester United legend has supported other organizations working for child welfare like the Make-A-Wish Foundation and World Vision. Ronaldo has granted wishes to terminally ill children and supported relief efforts for child victims of natural disasters. His big-heartedness and concern for children have earned him respect beyond the footballing world.
Alleviating poverty and hunger is another important cause for Ronaldo. He has been associated with Save the Children for several years to raise awareness and funds for underprivileged children worldwide. In 2016, the star footballer donated his UEFA Champions League winnings to support adaptive education programs for young Syrian refugees.
Ronaldo has also been working to address poverty and hunger in his home country Portugal. He donated $83,000 to fund treatment for a 9-year-old Portuguese boy suffering from brain cancer in 2012. The football icon additionally partnered with the Global FoodBanking Network to help fight hunger across Portugal during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Along with poverty reduction, Ronaldo is dedicated to advancing health and wellbeing for vulnerable people. He donated $165,000 to fund cancer treatment for a child in 2020 and has supported other patients who cannot afford medical care.
After the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, Ronaldo paid for a tsunami victim to have reconstructive surgery in Barcelona. He also made a generous donation to build a cancer center in Madeira, Portugal, named after his late father. Furthermore, Ronaldo continues to promote grassroots sports and an active lifestyle for disadvantaged youth.
Ronaldo's philanthropy and charity work have shown his compassion for people in need around the world. Though best known for his football career, his humanitarian efforts reveal the big-hearted person behind the larger-than-life persona.
