06.08.2022 » Why is Cristiano Ronaldo such an inspiring player?
Football has produced an endless number of players hailing from the four corners of the world. Only a few reached the top and joined the elite group of legendary footballers like the Brazilian legend Pelé, the Argentinian wizard Diego Maradona, and of course, Lionel Messi. One particular player who has made it to the elite group and has been constantly at the very top of the list is also, by no doubt, the Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo. Today, when people think or speak about football, the first thing that comes to mind is the Portuguese goal-scoring machine, as well as visiting a betting site without verification to place a football wager. Born on a small island off the coast of Portugal and hailing from a very low-income family, he once promised his father that he would eventually pull his family out of poverty. A promise he did keep as today, Ronaldo is one of the most well-paid players. He played for top-class football clubs like Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United, a club for which he is still playing for nowadays...
Cristiano Ronaldo - Inspiration:
Football in the streets of Portugal
At a young age, he had already attracted the attention of various football clubs and coaches. The approaches to hiring him were rejected because he was too young to play professional football at that time. In fact, his physic was still developing and a bit fragile to the roughness and tackles of professional football.
Following a strict training and eating regime, which Ronaldo still follows to this day, his physical strength and stamina improved enough for him to initiate his professional career as a footballer and he was well aware that if he worked hard enough, he would have a bright future ahead of him. Ronaldo is a good role model for young players with his determination and perseverance to impact the game.
Ronaldo was always a kind-hearted spirit off the football pitch
One of the most positive aspects of his character is that he never lost sight of his origins and the life he lived when he was still a young boy. Although he cares a lot about his family and friends, Ronaldo tries to help charities to improve people's life quality and give less fortunate youngsters a good start in life. Ronaldo has never lost sight of the small island he grew up in. In fact, he likes to go back to his island to help out young children improve their football skills and talents. He stresses that they need to make sacrifices, work hard, and avoid the negative aspects of life.
Despite his busy schedule and pressure to perform, when a tsunami hit Indonesia some years back, he found time to fly there and visit the areas affected by the disaster to raise funds to help them. On top of that, he also auctioned his personal sports gear to raise funds, which tallied one billion rupiahs at the end of the day.
Joining the Red Devils and becoming a star
In 2009, he became the first Manchester United player to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award. This was a significant achievement for the player and his club but most importantly was his modesty after receiving the award when, after thanking his fans and colleagues, he stated that "there are people that deserved it much more than him", in addition to working hard. Ronaldo's mantra is to avoid alcohol, sugary drinks, drugs, and smoking. Refrain from these negative issues in life, put that extra effort into what you want to do, and you can turn the world around in your favor.
Ronaldo puts up at least six hours a day at the training ground with his colleagues but continues to follow a different training plan to improve his skills and physical aspect of the game. His former boss at Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson, revealed one of Ronaldo's attributes that clearly shows how aspiring Ronaldo is. Sir Alex reported that "Fast and tricky, Ronaldo possesses a thunderous dipping, swerving shot and is one of the most dangerous set-piece exponents of the game. I have nothing but praise for the boy. He is easily the best player in the world. He is better than Kaká and better than Messi. Absolutely astounding". Quite some comments, coming from a person who only knows perfection!
He was also showered with praise from players who worked with him at the training grounds – "he is the first to arrive and the last to leave the training ground"; "he trains more and more each time…. he is a wonderful person and a total leader" and; "people need to realise who is Cristiano Ronaldo... he is truly a remarkable professional football player". Being a true professional equates to dedication, which is fundamental when chasing success.
The move to Real Madrid and Juventus
Cristiano Ronaldo is an inspiration to any person, whether involved in sports or otherwise. He proved that through hard work, focus and determination, anybody can achieve any objective or goal in life. He also showed the world that believing in one’s self is one of the most crucial elements to acquiring success. Ronaldo has the natural ability to believe in himself throughout his career. This belief enabled him to perform at the highest level, week after week, whether he was playing for Juventus, Real Madrid, or Manchester United. For him, confidence is the name of the game that gives you the necessary strength to work hard and perform better.
This could sound hard to understand, but for people who want to perform at the highest levels, whether in business, government, or sports, one requires a reasonable sense of arrogance. The chemical reaction of arrogance is important to keep you at the top, to gain respect, and remind you where you are. Ronaldo has plenty of this element, sometimes going beyond the term "a reasonable sense of arrogance". The same factor can be found in other successful persons like Usain Bolt, Sir Alex Ferguson, José Mourinho, and Ronaldo's sporting rival, Lionel Messi.
Although Ronaldo can occasionally be seen as an arrogant person and too self-centered, no one can doubt his abilities and talent. He performed at the highest level, whether playing in England, Spain, or Italy, and his goal-scoring statistics are second to none. At his current age, he still has the physic of a twenty-year-old, all due to his hard work, taking care of his body, and an endless hunger for more success.
