22.09.2021 » Will Ronaldo's return to England increase betting interest in Man Utd?

Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Old Trafford in 2021

With Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford, all eyes suddenly turned to the Premier League and to Manchester United. The Portuguese legend also had an immediate impact on many betting markets, as he keeps scoring in every single match he plays for the Red Devils...

There has been much excitement amongst Man Utd fans since it was announced that Cristiano Ronaldo was returning to Old Trafford. They believe that the maestro will help them to achieve domestic and European success. Of course, there are still many obstacles to overcome, including competition from teams like Man City, Liverpool, and Chelsea. But, this has not stopped fans of the Red Devils from having their expectations raised by Ronaldo's return. Recently, we spoke to an expert from JustGamblers.com who is confident that this belief will translate into increased betting on both Man Utd and the player himself.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Man United debut (2003 vs 2021):

JustGamblers analysis

«Betting interest on Man Utd has already increased since Ronaldo's return and it’s likely that this will continue. This is especially the case given how successful the return has been so far and how many bookmakers are offering diverse odds in terms of Man Utd overall and Ronaldo's performances.»

Odds on the return of the master

The downside of Ronaldo's so far successful return is that odds offered by the bookmakers tend to be short. In fact, this was the case before he'd kicked a ball again for his old club. The odds on him scoring a hattrick in his first game back against Newcastle were 13/2.

The bookmakers were almost forced to pay out given that he scored two of the goals in a 4-1 win. These are just two of the four goals that Ronaldo has netted since his return. It's little wonder that he is already featuring as a front runner in the odds for top goalscorer in the Premier League.

Amongst the favorites to be Premier League top scorer

Currently, Ronaldo has the shortest odds to be top Premier League goalscorer, at 2-1 with most bookmakers. It seems as though there has already been significant betting action in his direction. It's debatable whether this represents good value even for the most die-hard Man Utd fan, given the short odds and competition from players like Salah and Lukaku.

Interestingly, Ronaldo is also favourite to be PFA Player of the Year, at odds of 6/1. The odds may be longer for this bet but the competition still makes it a risky wager.

Arguably, people inspired to place a bet by Ronaldo's return may be best advised to place a wager on the club rather than the player. Man Utd are 6/1 to become Premier League champions so there is some value to be had in this market. Better value odds of 10/1 can be found in Champions League betting. However, anyone taking advantage of this market needs to consider that Man Utd did not have the best start in the competition with the defeat against Young Boys.

There is still plenty of time to go in the competition though and the Red Devils can never be discounted especially now that Ronaldo is back in the fold.

Of course, there can never be certainty in any football competition but the return of Ronaldo has raised the confidence of Man Utd fans and this is most certainly reflected in the increase in betting interest in the team and the player.
