Cristiano Ronaldo waking up from a nap

The route to success is never easy and Cristiano Ronaldo is the perfect example of how discipline and determination can help you becoming your own best version. In a few words and by looking at his daily routine, the Portuguese eats healthy, works hard, but also rests a lot...

As one of the world's best known and most successful footballers, there is a lot of interest and intrigue into the life of Cristiano Ronaldo. At 36, he continues to dominate the sport, both on the field and off, despite being older than the average retirement age for those in his profession.

Through a long and successful playing career combined with a string of investments, business interests, and endorsement deals, Ronaldo has amassed a net worth of around half a billion dollars.

For ultra-successful players like Ronaldo that compete in the top-flight of the sport, the pressures that playing football places on them is getting bigger and bigger. Fixture congestion across Europe is placing a lot of strain on leading teams and players, often forcing managers to prioritise one competition over another.

With his fingers in many pies, Ronaldo's schedule is packed even tighter as tries to squeeze in training, competing, business interests and his personal life into just 24 hours.

Having so much to do means that no two days are the same for Ronaldo, but here is an insight into the sorts of things he gets up to each day when he's not competing in a game for his club, Juventus.

Cristiano Ronaldo - Showing his workout routine:

6 AM - Training or Workout Session

Ronaldo starts most days with a training session, either working out in his gym or practising with his teammates.

8 AM - Nap and Breakfast

Following a strenuous training session, Ronaldo takes a nap for 90 minutes to give his body a rest and allow it to recover from the exertion he placed on it.

After waking from his name, Ronaldo has his first of five or six meals, consisting of meats, cheeses, yoghurt and fruit juice. Other times, he may have fruit, whole-grain cereal, and eggs.

10:30 AM - More Working Out

Following breakfast, Ronaldo will often do more exercise to help keep himself in peak physical fitness. This is vital if he wants to be one of the fastest and most nimble players on the field.

This work out session usually involves a card session that lasts around 25-30 minutes, plus interval training and resistance exercises to help him maintain a high muscle mass.

12:30 PM - Napa and Lunches

Following his second session of exercise, Ronaldo will take another nap that lasts around 90 minutes before having his first of two lunches. This meal will usually contain lean meats like chicken and vegetables and/or a salad.

These naps are part of a sleep regime that has been provided to him by Nick Littlehales, a "sleep expert" who recommends people sleep for 7.5 hours a day, split into 90-minute blocks. However, it seems Ronaldo actually sleeps longer, combining a full night of shuteye with additional 90-minute naps.

After his first lunch, Ronaldo will often take a second 90-minute nap and follow it with a second lunch. This will again be comprised of lean proteins like fish and eggs and plenty of mineral-rich roughage like leaves and vegetables.

Afternoon - Varied

Ronaldo's afternoons are often varied, with him working on his businesses interests, media appearances, or other such activities. Nearly half of all of his income is earned through endorsement deals with companies like Nike and Tag Heuer, ensuring he has plenty of things to keep him busy between his schedule of exercise, sleeping, and eating.

Evening - Dinners and Personal Time

After an afternoon of work, Ronaldo will have two evening meals, interspersed with time with his girlfriend and friends. With a collection of more than a dozen supercars and an $18 million mansion that has indoor and outdoor pools, a gym, and an incredible panoramic view of Madeira, Ronaldo has plenty of ways to let his hair down.

10 PM - Swimming, Relaxing, and Bed Time

Ronaldo ends his day with a swimming session, often lasting around an hour. During the summer months, he'll likely use the outdoor pool at his villa, but when the weather isn't great he takes his dip inside. When he's completed his final exercise session of the day, he'll wind down and prepare to go to sleep.
