06.03.2021 » Juventus 3-1 Lazio. Morata steps up and leads the comeback!
Juventus refuses to drop the towel in the Serie A title race and collected another 3 points against one of the strongest rivals in the league, SS Lazio. The Italian champions were surprised by an early goal from Joaquín Correa, but managed to respond before the half-time break, when Adrien Rabiot scored his second league goal of the season. In the second-half and just like many sports bookmakers like Sportingbet were predicting via tempting odds, Juventus completed the comeback with two goals from Álvaro Morata, beating Lazio by 3-1. Cristiano Ronaldo ended up replacing the Spanish forward around the 69th minute of the game, but the game was already settled and no more goals would be scored on the night. The Bianconeri remain 3rd in the league, 7 points behind Inter Milan.

The chase is still on!
Juventus are still on the fight for the Serie A title, even though the league leaders, Inter Milan, are highly motivated and determined in breaking the Bianconeri's reign in Italy. At the end of the season, leagues are won by the most consistent team and that's something Juventus haven't been to deliver so far. However, if Pirlo finally manages to build a good winning streak in the next few weeks, everything could change on the top of the league...
This Saturday, the champions had to deal with an always dangerous Lazio side, who are sitting 7th in the league at the moment. The Roman side were struggling in their last few matches, having lost 3 of their last 4 games, including a 4-1 defeat against Bayern Munich in a Champions League tie. Nevertheless, Juventus couldn't be careless in a game like this and the two teams had already tied 1-1 in their first meeting in the Serie A earlier this season.
As we all know, Juventus are struggling a lot with injuries at this stage of the season and this Saturday's match was just another proof that Pirlo is short of options to replace some of his key players when they are either unavailable or resting. Despite the 3-1 win, the Bianconeri allowed Lazio to create way too many scoring opportunities and if it wasn't for Morata's inspiration this weekend, they would have risked dropping crucial points in the title race.
Morata scores a brace!
The Vecchia Signora started the game on the wrong foot, as they allowed Lazio to break the deadlock near the 14th minute of the first half, due to a big mistake from Kulusevski, who made a bad pass that compromised his team. The ball fell on Joaquín Correa's scope of action and the Argentine player didn't lose any time and immediately raced towards the box. With only Demiral in front of him, Correa managed to cut inside and easily beat Szczesny with a low strike to make it 1-0 for Lazio.
Losing was not an option for Pirlo's men and the reaction began a few moments before the half-time break. Bernardeschi found Álvaro Morata holding a defender on his back and passed him the ball hoping that he could create some space in the last third of the pitch. The former Real Madrid forward was able to receive the ball, turn around and assist Rabiot for a spectacular finish. The French midfielder didn't waste any touches on the ball and immediately tried his luck with a powerful strike that only stopped in the back of the net. All back to square one in Turin...
In the second half, Juventus showed what champions are made of and completed the comeback when Álvaro Morata finished off a counter attacking move initiated by Federico Chiesa. The hosts had finally grabbed the precious lead and didn't lose any time chasing one more goal. Just three minutes after Morata's first goal on the night, the Spanish striker scored his second from the penalty spot, after seeing Ramsey being fould inside the box. It was Morata's 7th goal in the Serie A this season and his 16th goal in all competitions for the Bianconeri.
Cristiano Ronaldo was subbed in shortly after, in the 69th minute, but he didn't have much of an impact as the hosts were holding a 2-goal lead already and were not interested in taking too many risks. Juventus are going to face FC Porto for the Champions League this Tuesday night and Pirlo is well aware of the importance of avoiding further injuries or excessive fatigue.
