13.12.2020 » Genoa 1-3 Juventus. Ronaldo secures the win with a penalty brace
The chase to the Serie A leader continues, as Juventus earned their second straight win in the competition and puts a bit more pressure on AC Milan. The Italian champions visited and defeated Genoa by 3-1 tonight, but it was far from being a walk in the park for Andrea Pirlo's men. After a goalless first-half, we had to wait nearly 12 minutes for the deadlock to be broken, when Paulo Dybala managed to show the fans what he does best. The Argentine hadn't scored a single goal in the Serie A this season, but after tonight's strike, hopefully things will turn around for him. However, the home side reacted just a couple minutes later and equalised the game from a good finish delivered by Sturaro. Juventus didn't give up though and managed to earn two penalty-kicks before the referee's final whistle, which Ronaldo was happy to convert and extend his goalscoring tally in the season to 14, with 10 of those being in the Serie A.

Dybala returned to the scoring charts...
Today's victory will allow Juventus to keep building their confidence, especially since the display on the pitch wasn't as great as the result the Bianconeri earned. The first half was extremelly disappointing, with the Vecchia Signora struggling a lot to find spaces and not creating the scoring chances they needed to break the deadlock. When the referee blew the whistle for half-time, the visitors had a total of 72% of possession in their favor, but it was somewhat innocuous...
Andrea Pirlo introduced multiple changes to his starting lineup after the impressive win at the Camp Nou, last Tuesday. In goal, Szczesny took Gianluigi Buffon's place, while in defense Bonucci and De Ligt paired up in the centre, leaving the wings to Alex Sandro and Cuadrado. The Italian champions' midfield had McKennie, Rabiot, Bentancur and Chiesa, leaving the attacking duties to Paulo Dybala and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Tonight's opponent isn't going through a good moment, as they have only won a single game in the Serie A this season. Genoa has also the worst attack in the league, having scored only 10 goals after playing a total of 11 fixtures. On paper, it should have been an easy game for Juve, but the lack of intensity and creativity shown in the first half almost jeopardized today's result...
Ronaldo scored a brace, from the penalty spot!
The last time Paulo Dybala had scored a goal in the Serie A dated back to July 4, in a 4-1 home win against Torino. The Argentine has lost influence in the team over the last months and his relationship with goals has met better days... The 27-year old possesses tons of talent and he's one of the few players in this squad who can really make the difference in a game when everything seems blocked. Tonight, he reminded us all why Juventus need him so much for the decisive stages of the season...
In the 57th minute of the game, McKennie found Dybala with a great header, allowing the Argentine star to take on a defender inside the box and try his luck from a good position. His shot went through the defender's legs and caught the goalkeeper moving to the opposite direction, making the strike even harder to be stopped. The ball only stopped in the back of the net and Paulo Dybala was visibly a relieved and happy man for having scored his first goal of the season in the Serie A.
The home side didn't lose time though and just a few minutes after they conceded the opening goal, they levelled things up when Sturaro finished a great cross to the far post. The former Juventus' midfielder isn't exactly known for his scoring ability, but he was certainly happy to prove himself against his old club.
But the game wasn't over yet and Juventus immediately started charging for another goal. They would eventually get two more goals and both from the penalty spot. As usual, Cristiano Ronaldo was the man in charge of converting them and he didn't waste these chances to secure the victory for his team and tie with Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the top of the scoring charts.
