20.09.2020 » Juventus 3-0 Sampdoria. The champions made a statement!

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrating his first goal of the season for Juventus

The champions are back on the pitch in the Serie A and they didn't disappoint their fans in their opening game. Juventus hosted and defeated Sampdoria by 3-0, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the last game of the night.

The Andrea Pirlo era started today, as Juventus met their first opponent of the season and already proved to be in great form. The Italian champions made easy work of Sampdoria, beating the Blucerchiati 3-0 and earning the first 3 points of 2020-21 Serie A campaign. There were a lot of positive takes from this first official match under Andrea Pirlo's orders, starting with the team's first goalscorer of the season, Dejan Kulusevski. The Swedish played right next to Cristiano Ronaldo and had a great debut game for the Bianconeri. Bonucci and Ronaldo also scored a goal each tonight, as the Portuguese legend never gave up chasing his goal throughout the entire game.

New coach, new faces, new tactics!

This new Juventus team started on a great note tonight and they got their fans really excited about the upcoming season not only because of their 3-0 win over Sampdoria, but mostly due to the way they performed on the pitch. For those who still remember how the Bianconeri were dragging on the field last season, tonight's game contrasted with the poor competitive atittude we've been used to in the last few months when Maurizio Sarri was still the coach...

The first inovation came immediately on the team's tactics, as Andrea Pirlo played in a bold 3-4-3, with several dynamics that allowed the team to adapt to different circumstances throughout the game. In terms of debuts, the Bianconeri saw 3 new faces in their starting lineup, as Gianluca Frabotta played on the left wing, the American prospect McKennie played in the centre of midfield and Kulusevski paired with Cristiano Ronaldo upfront.

The first goal of the season for the Bianconeri would be scored by Kulusevski and still before the first quarter of an hour. The opportunity came in when Cristiano Ronaldo forced his way in to Sampdoria's box, but ended up being tackled by a defender. The ball fell right on Kulusevksi's feet and the Swedish international showed off his calmness and class by firing a well-placed shot to the far post, giving no chance to the opponent's goalkeeper.

Cristiano Ronaldo didn't want to miss the scoring party!

The fist-half finished with Juventus leading by one goal, but with plenty of good opportunities wasted. Cristiano Ronaldo alone, had at least 3 great scoring chances, one of them with the ball smashing the crossbar after a powerful left-foot shot. Sampdoria on the other hand, was struggling a lot to move the ball around and to threaten Szczesny the way they certainly intended.

The second half wasn't much different from the first 45 minutes, with the major difference being Juventus improving their efficiency in front of goal and adding 2 more goals to the scoresheet. The 2-0 took place in the 78th minute, when Sampdoria failed to clear away a cross coming from a corner-kick and following a first shot by McKennie blocked by the goalkeeper, Bonucci was quick to react and easily pushed the ball into the back of the net.

The third and final goal of the night was delivered by the usual suspect, Cristiano Ronaldo. After an entire game looking for his first goal of the season for Juventus, the Portuguese forward finally got it near the end, when Aaron Ramsey assisted him on the right for another duel with Sampdoria's goalkeeper. This time, the 35-year old looked for the far post and managed to set the final score in 3-0 for the Italian champions. Next on Pirlo's agenda is AS Roma, as Juventus will travel to Rome next Sunday to their first major test of the season.
