26.07.2020 » Juventus 2-0 Sampdoria. Ronaldo scores and Juve wins the Serie A

Cristiano Ronaldo wins his second Serie A title with Juventus

Juventus have won their 9th straight Serie A title, after beating Sampdoria by 2-0 in Turin and cementing their dominance in Italy. Cristiano Ronaldo scored the opener just before the half-time break and led his team to another domestic triumph, in what's been a very peculiar year for everyone...

It was only a matter of time until Juventus confirmed their 9th consecutive Serie A title and that moment happened tonight, after the Bianconeri hosted and defeated Sampdoria by 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium. The 3 points earned this evening allowed Juve to build a 7-point lead over second-placed Inter Milan with just 2 fixtures left in the league. The first place was mathematically secured and the Vecchia Signora can now celebrate another Serie A triumph, the 36th title in the club's history. Many online casinos will certainly enjoy having more traffic in the upcoming weeks, now that the title decision is over in Italy and sports bookmakers lose most of their appeal. The Italian champions found the winning path when Cristiano Ronaldo broke the deadlock deep inside the first half's added time. The second goal was scored later in the second half, when Bernardeschi finished off a rebound from another Ronaldo's shot to make it 2-0 for the Juventus.

Champions.. at last!

It's true that Juventus are not convincing most of football fans with the type of football they've been playing on the pitch. It's not an attractive playing style, they struggle to impose their dominance regardless of their opponent and their best players aren't playing at their best. Nevertheless, the Italian champions were consistent enough to still collect more points than their biggest rivals over the last weeks and thanks to that, they can now celebrate their 9th Serie A title in 9 years, with still 2 fixtures left on the calendar.

The mid-week 2-1 defeat against Udinese somehow made the sirens go off in Turin, since it marked the first matchpoint wasted by the Vecchia Signora. With the Champions League challenges just a couple weeks away from now, it was important to close the Serie A chapter as soon as possible and that meant winning the 3 points against Sampdoria earlier tonight. The champions didn't waste their second matchpoint and thanks to this evening's 2-0 win, Maurizzio Sarri can now rotate his key players in the upcoming weeks and prepare his pupils for the massive game against Olympique Lyon on August 7.

It wasn't only good news for Juventus tonight though... The Italian champions had to deal with 3 injuries during the game, the first one being Danilo, the second one Paulo Dybala and the third one De Ligt. While the Brazilian and the Dutchman might actually be easy replaced, the same can't be said about the Argentine superstar. Dybala has been Juventus' most in-form player since the COVID stoppage and losing him for the clash against Lyon could turn out to be a huge upset...

Ronaldo led the way!

The first goal of the game happened during the first half's stoppage time, when Pjanic and Cristiano Ronaldo executed what was most likely something Sarri made them practice in training. When everyone was expecting the Bosnian to cross the ball into the box, Pjanic passed it low to Ronaldo and the Portuguese forward lost no time and immediately slammed it into one of the low corners of Sampdoria's goal. The former Real Madrid player has now scored 31 goals in the Serie A, but he's still 3 goals behind Lazio's Immobile, who scored a hat-trick earlier this Sunday.

In the second half, Juventus extended their lead in the 67th minute and basically sealed the deal for good. The hosts punished their opponent on a fast counter attack, as Gonzalo Higuaín moved the ball forward several meters before leaving it for Ronaldo on the left. The 35-year old forward then cut inside and struck for goal, but saw his shot being blocked by Sampdoria's goalkeeper. Fortunately for the Bianconeri, Bernardeschi came from behind charging at full speed and pushed the ball into the back of the net, securing the 2-0 win for Juve.

Ronaldo would still have another great chance to increase his goalscoring tally this season, as he saw Alex Sandro going down inside the box and the referee pointing to the penalty spot. The Portuguese star made an unusual mistake though and his shot blasted against the crossbar... Nevertheless, Juventus are the Italian champions for another season and all focus will now be put on the Champions League clash against Olympique Lyon.
