13.02.2020 » AC Milan 1-1 Juventus. All square for the second leg!

Cristiano Ronaldo unhappy with Juventus result and performance

Juventus and Milan didn't go beyond a 1-goal draw tonight at the San Siro stadium, in a game where the Rossoneri ended up being the more aggressive team. Ronaldo scored again, this time near the end of the game and via a penalty-kick.

Juventus had to settle with a 1-1 draw in their trip to the San Siro to face AC Milan this Thursday night and having in mind there's a second leg in Turin scheduled for March 4, this is a result that leaves the Bianconeri confident in going through to the Coppa Italia semifinals. Nevertheless and just like the best football tipsters had predicted, tonight's clash was everything but an easy one, as Milan left Juve uncomfortable the entire game and always looked the more dangerous side on the pitch. Rebic scored for the hosts in the 61st minute and made the Rossoneri dream with a good result, but once again, Cristiano Ronaldo showed up and scored the equalizer from the penalty spot, shortly after the 90th minute of regular time.

A tough tie...

For the third time in the last 4 games, Juventus failed to grab the win. This time, however, the 1-1 draw can actually be seen as a positive result, since it was the first and away leg against one of the best teams in Italy, AC Milan. In any case and like it happened many times this season, the result was actually a lot better than the performance. Juventus struggled to play their game at the San Siro, as Milan kept their aggressiveness levels high the whole 90 minutes and forced the Italian champions to sweat for every ball...

Coming off a 2-1 loss against Hellas Verona, Sarri decided to rotate almost half of his team tonight against AC Milan. As usual, Buffon took his place in goal replacing Szczesny, while Alex Sandro and Mattia De Sciglio played on the wings, helping Matthijs De Ligt and Bonucci guarding the Bianconeri's defense. In midfield, Blaise Matuidi, Pjanic and Aaron Ramsey packed the combative area of the pitch, leaving most of the attacking duties for Cuadrado, Paulo Dybala and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo.

The game was very tactical, with Juventus having a lot more ball possession than Milan, but with the hosts being more dangerous every time they had the chance to storm in Buffon's direction. With Ante Rebic and Zlatan Ibrahimovic upfront, the Rossoneri tried to respond to Juventus' patient game with aggressiveness and velocity, which ended up causing the Vecchia Signora many problems.

Ronaldo scored the dramatic equalizer...

After a goalless draw where Juventus barely had a chance to shoot and try beating Donnarumma, it wasn't that much of a surprise to see AC Milan scoring the opener in the 61st minute. A cross from Samu Castillejo from the right side of the attack found Ante Rebic free of marking in the heart of the box and the Croatian forward finished it off with class using his right foot, beating Buffon for the first time on the night. It was very poor defending from Juventus though, especially from De Sciglio, who was responsible for the marking on Rebic in that play.

Just 10 minutes after AC Milan got their goal, the hosts saw the former Real Madrid player, Theo Hernández, being booked with a yellow card for the second time, forcing the Rossoneri to play with 10 men for the remaining 20 minutes or so. That allowed Juventus to intensify their pressure and eventually send Milan against the ropes in the final moments of the game...

But we had to wait until the 91st minute of the game to see Juventus celebrating a goal in San Siro tonight. Once again, Cristiano Ronaldo was the man of the moment, after seeing his acrobatic shot blocked by Davide Calabria's arm inside the penalty box. The referee, after being advised by the VAR, pointed to the spot and allowed Ronaldo to score the equalizer and set the final score in 1-1. It was the Portuguese 8th consecutive game scoring in all competitions!
