All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Hellas Verona:
A quite open game...
Following last week's win against Fiorentina, Sarri didn't make any changes to his team and repeated the exact same lineup. Szczesny was the chosen goalkeeper, with a back four in front of him formed by Alex Sandro, Bonucci, De Ligt and Cuadrado. Juventus' midfield was filled by Pjanic, Bentancur and Rabiot, while in the attack, Douglas Costa teamed up with Gonzalo Higuaín and the Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The first half was quite even, with both sides creating good chances to break the deadlock. However and despite the attacking mindset from both Hellas and Juve, we would reach half-time with a goalless draw.
In the 20th minute, the hosts still managed to put the ball into the back of Szczesny's net, after a free-kick from Miguel Veloso found Marash Kumbulla's head already inside Juventus's box. A few instants later however, a VAR call gave the referee the order to disallow the goal due to an offside and the scoreline would remain unchanged...
As for Juventus, their best chances in the first 45 minutes were created by Douglas Costa and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players hit the woodwork in different occasions and the hosts were quite fortunate to go into the locker rooms without having conceded a single goal, especially since Ronaldo still had a couple other good opportunities before the break to add his name to the scoresheet...
A shocking comeback...
The second half finally allowed us to see some goals and Juventus would be the first ones to celebrate. Just a few minutes after Paulo Dybala replaced Gonzalo Higuaín in the Bianconeri's attack, the Argentine combined brilliantly with Cristiano Ronaldo, allowing the Portuguese forward to find himself with a lot of space just outside the hosts' penalty box and eventually find the gap he needed to strike the ball into the low corner.
With tonight's goal, Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored at least a goal in his last 10 appearances in the Serie A and has scored 17 goals in his last 13 apperances for Juventus in all competitions.
The surprise would arrive later in the game though, as the hosts never dropped their arms and reached the equalizer in the 76th minute, thanks to a Fabio Borini's goal. A Pjanic mistouch allowed the Italian forward to go 1-on-1 with Szczesny and with just the Polish goalkeeper in front of him, he curled the ball into the far post to set the scoreline to 1-1.
As if the draw wasn't penalizing enough for the Italian champions, Hellas would complete the comeback in the 86th minute, following another controverse referee call, who decided to award the hosts a penalty-kick after seeing Bonucci blocking a header with his arm. Giampaolo Pazzini didn't fall to the pressure and scored his 5th Serie A goal of the season, making it 2-1 for Hellas Verona.
