26.11.2019 » Juventus 1-0 Atletico Madrid. Dybala shines in Europe!

Juventus have secured the first spot in their Champions League group this Tuesday night, after beating Atletico Madrid at the Allianz Stadium by 1-0. The hero of the night was Paulo Dybala, as the Argentine not only delivered the only goal in the game but also produced a brilliant performance...

It wasn't a brilliant game from Juventus tonight, but the Italian giants managed to beat a tough Atletico Madrid side by 1-0 in Turin, thanks to a superb goal from the Argentine Paulo Dybala. Cristiano Ronaldo played the whole game, but struggled to perform at his best and ended the match without hitting the target even once. The Portuguese forward is clearly going through a tough time in the club and hopefully he'll find his best form in December. In the meantime, the Vecchia Signora have already secured the top spot in the UEFA Champions League Group D and should now turn all their attention to the upcoming Serie A fixtures.

A disappointing aTleti...

Maurizzio Sarri approached this game with caution, respecting the opponent he had ahead of him and understanding that they were the ones who had to take risks in order to grab the 3 points. Any other result other than an Atletico win would mean that Juventus would finish first in the group and that's precisely what happened this Tuesday in Turin.

The Bianconeri played with Szczesny in goal and a back-four with De Sciglio on the left, Danilo on the right, while De Ligt and Bonucci paired up in the center of the defense. In midfield, Sarri dropped Khedira and played with Matuidi, Pjanic, Bentancur and Ramsey, leaving the attacking spots for Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo. Gonzalo Higuaín started on the bench and would only come on for the last quarter of the game.

The first half had Juventus dominating most of the actions, as the Bianconeri went into half-time with an impressive 71% possession. However, the truth is that we haven't seen many attacking plays from neither side in these first 45 minutes and the only noteworthy moment was precisely the one that changed the fate of the game. Paulo Dybala decided to surprise Jan Oblak very near the half-time break and with a brilliant free-kick he beat the Slovenian goalkeeper to put Juventus in front.

Dybala stole the show...

The second half was a very poor show overall, as Juventus allowed Atletico to have more ball and waited for the opportunities to counter-attack. The problem was that neither Juve or Atleti had enough inspiration to produce good football upfront and the goal scoring chances were scarce...

Sarri took off Ramsey for Bernardeschi in the 63rd minute and shortly after, the Italian midfielder got very close to score the second goal for the home side when he saw his shot slamming into the post. Dybala would also come off in the 76th minute for Gonzalo Higuaín and the home fans didn't hesitate in giving him the night ovation for his goal and performance.

As for Atletico, their best chance was produced in the very last play of the game, following a good combination between João Félix and Correa on the right, which led to a very dangerous cross into the box that Morata somehow couldn't finish when he only had an empty net in front of him. The former Real Madrid forward missed it big time and the game would finish with Juventus taking the 3 points and the top spot of the group.
