10.11.2019 » Juventus 1-0 AC Milan. Dybala replaces Ronaldo to deliver the winner

Cristiano Ronaldo subbed off for Dybala in Juventus

Juventus hosted and beat AC Milan by 1-0 this Sunday night, in another competitive game for the Serie A. Cristiano Ronaldo got subbed off for Dybala in the beginning of the second half and it would be the Argentine scoring the winner in the 77th minute of the game.

The capacity of winning games by a 1-goal margin has been a trademark of Italian teams for a long time and even though many refuse to accept it, it takes a lot of talent and discipline to do it consistently. Juventus have done it again this Sunday after beating their rivals AC Milan 1-0 in Turin, in a game where the Italian champions only showed their best version in the second half. Paulo Dybala scored the decisive goal in this game well inside the last quarter, after having come on as a substitute for Cristiano Ronaldo, near the 10th minute of the second half. The Portuguese clearly didn't appreciate Sarri's decision of taking him off so early in the game and it's going to be interesting to watch how things will unfold in the coming weeks...

Lessons to learn from the first-half

Juventus have successfully defended their league's leadership for another week, this time after taking on AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium and beating the Rossoneri by 1-0. The visitors, who are currently sitting in 14th place in the Serie A, may have had a quite bad season so far but tonight's performance and in particular their first half at the Allianz were on a high note.

The visitors clearly had the best chances in the first 45 minutes, with Piatek missing a great opportunity to break the deadlock when he misdirected his header and also the former Flamengo midfielder, Lucas Paquetá, picking the top-right corner from another header, but this time seeing Szczesny denying him with a superb save. Juve also had some dangerous plays upfront, but Milan was definitely looking more comfortable and closer to score.

At half-time, Milan had already had more shots (6vs4) and shots on target (3vs2) than Juventus and more important than that, they seemed to be controlling the Vecchia Signora in their own backyard. Maurizzio Sarri couldn't be happy with what he was seeing and he knew something had to be done in order for his team to improve in the second half.

Dybala for Ronaldo changed the game

Shortly after the second half began, Sarri decided to make a quite controversial change in his side, taking off the team's top scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo, and sending in Paulo Dybala. The Portuguese superstar, who was visibly upset with his manager's decision, left the pitch straight to the dressing rooms. In mid-week and against Lokomotiv, Sarri had already subbed off Ronaldo during the second half, but back then he justified his decision with the fact that the 34-year old player was suffering from an adductor fatigue. Tonight, however, there weren't any signs of fatigue from Ronaldo and it may have been a pure tactical decision from the Italian manager.

The only goal scored tonight happened in the 77th minute of the game, when a fantastic collective play led to Paulo Dybala dribbling a defender and hitting the back of the net with a low strike. This was the Argentine's 5th goal this season, his 3rd in the Serie A, even though he only started in 7 games so far...

The visitors didn't quit straight away, but with Juve on the lead, the best chances to score in the remaining minutes still belonged to the champions. Nevertheless, no more goals would be scored in this game and the Bianconeri were happy collect the 3 points and secure the 1st place in the Serie for a couple more weeks. They now have 32 points, earned in 10 wins, 2 draws and no losses in the league. Inter is right behind them with 31 points...
