02.11.2019 » Torino 0-1 Juventus. The champions win the Derby della Mole
The Italian champions didn't have to travel far to meet their opponent this Saturday night, as the Derby della Mole took place in the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, in a classic clash between Torino and Juventus. The Bianconeri got the better of their rivals thanks to a goal from De Ligt in the second half and have finally secured a clean sheet after 5 straight games conceding a goal. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't score in tonight's 1-0 win despite his 7 shot attempts and will be looking to find again the back of the net next Wednesday in Moscow, when Juventus faces Lokomotiv Moscow for the UEFA Champions League in Russian soil.

The rise of the dutchman?
Last summer, the Bianconeri splashed 85 million euros to sign Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax and as expected, there were plenty of voices raising doubts about the true value of the Dutchman. In his previous club and only accounting for last season, De Ligt had scored a total of 7 goals, 3 of those in the UEFA Champions League. He was yet to score one for Juventus, but after tonight's game, that's going to be one less concern...
The young defender has been struggling to adapt to a new club, new league and a new language and his first appearances for Juventus weren't convincing the critics. He was responsible for several big mistakes in the Bianconeri's defense and he has been far from performing at the same level he showed in Ajax. However, a goal in an important derby like the Derby della Mole could very well be the turning point in his journey as a Juventus player, as it will certainly boost his confidence levels for the upcoming games.
The match was quite balanced overall speaking, even though Juventus always looked a bit closer to scoring throughout the two halves. The visitors also had a lot more possession than Toro, (60% vs 40%) and recorded 19 shots against 9 from their rivals. At the end, the Italian champions showed once again that they won't mind winning games by a 1-goal margin and successfully held the fortress after De Ligt's goal in the 70th minute.
One goal is enough for
another 3 points
Just like in pretty much every other game this season, Juventus won their game with a 1-goal margin and battling until the end. Pjanic returned to the starting lineup after having missed the mid-week game against Genoa due to injury, while Higuaín started on the bench but would also join the game for the last 30 minutes and make the assist for the winning goal. Nevertheless and against a team who hasn't won a single game since September 25, the Bianconeri fans were certainly expecting a better performance from their team.
Cristiano Ronaldo got close to scoring in several occasions, but Sirigu was on a good night and stopped every attempt. The only goal in this game would be scored in the 70th minute, when a corner-kick from Pjanic found Higuaín on the far post, which eventually allowed the Argentine to pick a teammate inside the box. His target-man was Matthijs De Ligt, who had been left unmarked just a few meters in front of goal and the Dutchman struck the ball into the back of the net, giving his side the precious lead.
After the goal, Juventus closed the gates at the back and managed to keep Torino far from their goal. The 3 points earned tonight allowed the Vecchia Signora to maintain the first place on the top of the Serie A, but they're still under pressure as Inter Milan continues right behind them with only 1 point less.
