01.10.2019 » Juventus 3-0 Bayer Leverkusen. Ronaldo seals the first European win
The Champions League matchweek 2 began this Tueday and Juventus were looking to collect their first victory in the competition following the 2-2 draw against Atletico Madrid in the opening round in mid-September. Tonight, they faced Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena and made easy work of a team who is currently leading the Bundesliga. The Bianconeri beat the Germans by 3-0, thanks to a goal from Gonzalo Higuaín in the first half, followed by a goal from Bernardeschi deep in the second half and also Ronaldo's first in the competition, very near the final whistle.

Sarri's ball is starting to take over...
It was the 4th straight win for Sarri and Juventus in all competitions, the second with a comfortable margin. Tonight, the Italian champions controlled their opponents with ease and didn't give them many chances to create dangerous plays near Szczesny's goal. The Vecchia Signora are now tied with Atletico de Madrid on the top of Group D, but a better goal-difference allows them to be leading the group for now.
Once again, Sarri rotated a few players on his team, starting with Szczesny replacing Buffon, but also the return of Alex Sandro to the left-back position. In the centre, Bonucci repeated his partnership with De Ligt and they've performed extremely well... In midfield, Khedira, Matuidi and Pjanic attempted to maintain the team balanced at all times, giving enough freedom for the three men upfront to create havoc in attack. Bernardeschi, Gonzalo Higuaín and Cristiano Ronaldo were the forwards tonight...
Surprisingly, Bayer Leverkusen had more possession than Juventus throughout the game, but particularly in the first half, as went into the locker rooms with 63% possession. But as we've seen in multiple occasions in this sport, having more ball doesn't guarantee you success or even the best chances to score in a game. Sarri's men were perfectly comfortable with their opponents passing the ball around and they would punish them as soon as they got the chances for it...
Ronaldo keeps hunting records!
The opener was scored in the 17th minute and it was a beautiful goal from Gonzalo Higuaín. The former Real Madrid striker forced Jonathan Tah to make a mistake when he attempted to clear a high ball, then reacted extremely fast to control it and strike it low past Lukas Hradecky, making it 1-0 to Juve. The Argentine showed once again that he's in great form and he performed brilliantly tonight.
Higuaín would play an important role in his team's second goal later in the second half, as he combined with Ronaldo near the left edge of Bayer Leverkusen's box, just before assisting Bernardeschi on the penalty-spot mark, where the Italian easily finished it with his left foot to put his second two goals up. Simple and quick passing football and the Italian champions had the game and the 3 points in their hands, as Bayer Leverkusen never looked capable of upsetting the hosts.
After several chances denied by Bayer Leverkusen's goalkeeper, Cristiano Ronaldo finally found the back of the net in this game when Paulo Dybala assisted him for one of his clinical finishes when he only had the goalkeeper in front of him. It was Cristiano Ronaldo's 127th goal in the UEFA Champions League, who now has 15 more than Barcelona's Lionel Messi. Ronaldo has now also scored against 33 different clubs in the UEFA Champions League, which ties Raúl's record in the competition...
