10.09.2019 » Lithuania 1-5 Portugal. Ronaldo scores a poker in easy win
Portugal grabbed their second straight win in the EURO 2020 qualifiers and their last victim was Lithuania, who got thrashed 5-1 by Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates. The Portuguese attack has been on fire in this international break and they have now scored a total of 9 goals in two away fixtures against Serbia and Lithuania. Fernando Santos, often criticized for playing too defensively and too cautiously, is certainly a happy man after seeing his pupils firing in all cylinders upfront. Cristiano Ronaldo was superb this Tuesday night and not only he motivated his teammates to keep moving forward, as he also delivered his second poker of goals while representing the Portuguese National Team. He has now scored 93 goals for his nation... Not bad!

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Lithuania:
A slow start
Despite the 5-1 full-time scoreline, the game wasn't only roses and sunshine for the Portuguese team. The Seleção managed to score first when Atletico Madrid's new wonderboy, João Felix, saw his cross getting blocked by the arm of a Lithuania's defender, which eventually led to the referee pointing to the spot. Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to take the penalty and he didn't blink. Portugal had grabbed the lead and everyone expected things to be easier from that point onwards...
However, Lithuania held on and reacted well. In the 28th minute of the game, a corner-kick on the right would result in the equalizer, thanks to a good header from the hosts' left-back, who got the better of João Félix in the air to beat Rui Patrício and sent things back to square one.
That goal kind of came against the tide, as Portugal was controlling possession and creating the best chances to score. Nevertheless, the equalizer gave the Lithuanian side more confidence and made them believe they could pull off something positive out of this game. The 1-1 draw would be the result recorded at half-time and Portugal were forced to keep pushing forward after the break.
Ronaldo always shows up...
The hosts' resistance lasted roughly 15 minutes in the second half and the way it got broken down was somehow unfortunate. In the 61st minute of the game, Cristiano Ronaldo tried his luck from outside the box, but he slipped a bit just before making contact with the ball. The shot was weak and the ball went into the goalkeeper's direction bouncing, but surprisingly, the Lithuanian failed to hold on to the ball and it ended up hitting him in the shoulder and rolling into the back of the net.
The third goal of the night for Cristiano Ronaldo arrived just 4 minutes later, when a Bernardo Silva cross allowed the Juventus forward to finish it off from short range and without opposition. Portugal and also Ronaldo's fourth goal in this game took place in the 76th minute and it would be again Bernardo Silva assisting and CR7 finishing it. This time, the 34-year old didn't too many touches to set things up as he immediately hit the target when the ball got near him. It was Ronaldo's 93rd goal for Portugal. The all-time record for the most goals in international football belongs to Ali Daei from Iran, with 109 goals.
Portugal's last goal of the night was scored by Real Betis' midfielder, William Carvalho, in a player where the Lithuanian's defence could have done a lot better. The Portuguese player saw the ball bouncing just in front of him and with a small touch he managed to place the ball near the low corner on the right. 5-1 for Portugal and a good performance from the European champions, especially in the second half...
