10.08.2019 » Juventus 1-2 Atletico Madrid. The last test before the new season
Another game in this summer's pre-season calendar, and another negative result for Maurizio Sarri and this new Juventus team. Prior to this game, bookies like Betmaster Kenya had both sides at about even odds, even though the Spanish side was slightly favorite (3/2) due to their pre-season works being in a more advanced stage. The Italian champions clashed with one Europe's strongest sides, Atletico de Madrid, and saw the Colchoneros grabbing the win thanks to two goals scored by their new rising star, João Félix. Juve's only goal in this game was scored by Sami Khedira, but it proved to be insufficient to avoid the second loss ahead of the beginning of the Serie A, on August 24. Cristiano Ronaldo started tonight and was on the pitch for around 70 minutes, but this wasn't a good night for the Portuguese, who couldn't convert any of his chances against an opponent he quite simply demolished last season.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Atletico:
A "champions League level" clash
With just one week left for the beginning of La Liga and two weeks remaining for the start of the Serie A, both Atletico and Juventus approached this game with a very competitive attitude, still hoping to test a few tactical nuances and figure out what's the best lineup to go with when their domestic leagues kick off.
As expected, Atletico was very compact the whole evening and didn't allow Juventus to create many chances to find the back of the net. Nevertheless, the Colchoneros didn't exactly produce a lot of dangerous attacking plays either, but were definitely more confident and efficient in front of goal, as they managed to scored twice from the only 2 shots in target they produced the entire game.
Maurizio Sarri didn't exactly play around this evening and decided to play a very strong lineup. Szczesny was the chosen one to be in goal, with a back four formed by De Sciglio on the right, Alex Sandro on the left and both De Ligt and Chiellini pairing in the centre of defence. In midfield, Sarri played Sami Khedira next to Pjanic and one of the new signings for the new season, Adrien Rabiot. Upfront, the final third of the pitch was reserved to Douglas Costa, Gonzalo Higuaín and the main man, Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Felix fever is real!
The opening goal of this game was scored in the 24th minute of the first half, when the former Tottenham right-back Kieran Trippier delivered a great cross to the heard of Juventus' box, which then met the new European wonderboy, João Félix. The Portuguese forward responded the cross with a sublime first-touch finish and beat Szczesny for the first time on the night to give Atletico the lead. It's the third game in a row where the Portuguese adds his name to the scoresheet and he definitely got Europe's attention for this upcoming season...
Juventus's answer wouldn't take long though and Sami Khedira would draw things level just 5 minutes after Atletico's opening goal. The German international was quick to react to a loose ball and didn't hesitate in trying his luck from just outside the box. Khedira's shot was not very powerful, but it caught Oblak's unprepared and was accurate enough to leave him glued to the ground. 1-1 in less than half an hour played and still a lot of gametime left for both teams to impress the fans.
However, it would be Atletico fans who found a reason to smile again in this game, as João Félix decided to remind everyone why he costed 126 million euros for the Colchoneros to sign him this summer. This time, the assist was provided by Thomas Lemar, but the finishing touch was once again flawless and the Portuguese "golden boy" scored his second goal on the night.
Without further goals in the remaining of the game, Diego Simeone and Atletico were certainly happy to leave the pitch victorious, while Sarri still needs to make several adjustments in his side before the Serie A's opening fixture against Parma, scheduled for August 24.
