12.05.2019 » AS Roma 2-0 Juventus. Waiting for the summer
Juventus and AS Roma locked horns at the Stadio Olimpico this Sunday night, with the hosts desperate to collect as much points as possible in their fight for a Champions League spot and the Bianconeri over-relaxed following their Serie A conquest. It was without much surprise that we've seen Juve dropping points once again, this time in a 2-0 loss against a more motivated Roma side. Cristiano Ronaldo played the whole game but unfortunately couldn't score any goal and is now 5 goals behind the Serie A topscorer, Fabio Quagliarella from Sampdoria. Juventus will still have to play Atalanta at home next weekend, before finishing the season in a trip to Sampdoria on May 26.

Chances need to be converted...
With the Serie A title already in their pocket, Juventus couldn't handle Roma in the Stadio Olimpico this weekend and ended up losing their third game of the season in the league. The Bianconeri had multiple good chances to score in the first half, but their lack of proficiency in front of goal would cost them dearly and the hosts punished them later in the second half, building a 2-0 win with goals from Alessandro Florenzi and Edin Dzeko.
Massimiliano Allegri didn't exactly rotate his team for this big matchup against Roma and played with Szczesny in goal, De Sciglio and Spinazzola on the flanks, while Cáceres and Chiellini paired up in the centre of defence. Matuidi, Can, Pjanic and Cuadrado filled up the midfield and the attacking tasks were handed to Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo.
While this was a huge game for Roma and with a lot at stake for the hosts, the same can't be said about Juventus. The Romans are still in pursuit of a Champions League spot before crossing the finish line at the end of the month and grabbing the 3 points tonight was vital to keep that objective alive.
Roma's motivation made the difference
After a first half where Juventus created the best chances to break the deadlock, one would expect a fierce reaction from Roma right after the break. And so it was, the hosts turned up a gear in the second half and forced the Bianconeri to track back and eventually concede a couple goals near the end of the game.
The first goal of the night only happened around the 79th minute of the game, when a great combination between Edin Dzeko and Alessandro Florenzi left the Italian right-back with only Szczesny in front of him. Florenzi kept his compuse and elegantly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper's body to make it 1-0 for the Romans. Chiellini was just too slow to keep up with the pace of this attacking play the damage was done...
The second and last goal of the night was originated in a lightning counter-attack play from AS Roma, deep inside the second half's added time. Cengiz Under was the driving force in this play, as he sprinted almost half of the pitch before delivering the ball to his teammate Edin Dzeko, who was already waiting for it inside the box. The former Manchester City player showed what any worldclass forward would do in those circumstances and finished it off with a clean right-footed strike, sealing the 2-0 victory to his team.
