04.05.2019 » Juventus 1-1 Torino. "Air Ronaldo" shows up to avoid home loss
Turin stopped this Friday night to watch the city's two biggest teams colliding with each other, as Juventus hosted Torino at the Allianz Stadium for another competitive derby that ended with a 1-1 draw. If it's true that there was nothing at stake for the hosts, the same can't be said for the visitors, since Torino is still trying to finish in Champions League spots and the 3 points this Friday would have been gold for Walter Mazzarri's men. Nevertheless, a derby is always a derby and as our friends from NJ-odds.com predicted days ago, the Bianconeri always find the necessary motivation to make life tough for their rivals. Tonight and despite Torino's early lead, it was Ronaldo once again who showed up to ruin his opponent's plans. The Portuguese score the equalizer already near the end of the game, thanks to one of those headers where he seems to be able to stop time and hang up in the air.

Juve turned on the vacation mode
After wrapping up their 8th consecutive Serie A title, the Bianconeri have turned on their vacation mode a couple weeks ago and started losing a lot more points than usual in the league. On the other hand, Torino had plenty of motivation coming into this derby, since a win could mean moving up to 4th place in the league, with the same points as Atalanta.
The first minutes of the game showed us a more energetic Torino, which was perfectly natural given the circumstances. They started creating good chances to score very early in the game and the eventually broke the deadlock in the 18th minute, in a somewhat ridiculous mistake from the Italian champions. A defensive throw-in from João Cancelo left Pjanic immediately under pressure by Lukic and the Serbian was able to steal possession and then curl the ball past Szczesny to give his side the early lead.
The hosts tried to react shortly after in a good chance created by Cristiano Ronaldo and wasted by Matuidi, but that's been the better they managed to do in the first half and Torino were extremelly happy to go into half-time with their rivals somehow controlled...
When everything fails,
Ronaldo shows up
The second half was a bit slow paced, even though Juventus did improve a lot the way they were approaching this game. We started seeing the Italian champions attacking more and creating more chances to score and it would eventually pay off around the 84th minute. Before that, Moise Kean also got close to score in a left-foot shot inside Torino's box, but Salvatore Sirigu stopped it without much effort. It looked like the visitors could end up being the first ones to beat Juventus at home in the Serie A this season, but there was one man on the pitch who still had something to say about it...
Cristiano Ronaldo, who else, was desperate to score in this game and he finally got to celebrate his goal in the 84th minute. A cross from Spinazzola from the left flank found Cristiano Ronaldo unmarked on the far post and a mistake like that usually costs his opponents a goal. The former Real Madrid forward rose in the air, hung up there for a while and then headed the ball straight into the corner of Sirigu's goal to score the equalizer. Another terrific goal from the Portuguese superstar who, unlike other players, doesn't seem to want to go into vacation just yet.
It was Ronaldo's 28th goal in the season and his 21st in the Serie A. He's now the 2nd top scorer in the league, just 2 goals behind Fabio Quagliarella from Sampdoria, who still plays this Sunday against Parma. After this weekend's round, there are still 3 fixtures remaining in Italy, which means Cristiano Ronaldo still has good possibilities to score a few more goals and eventually finish as the league's top scorer on May 26.
