20.04.2019 » Juventus 2-1 Fiorentina. The Vecchia Signora wins the Serie A!
It's all over in the Serie A title fight, as Juventus grabbed the 3 points today in a 2-1 win against Fiorentina and mathematically became the champions in Italy. It's now the 8th year in a row the Old Lady lifts the league title, something no other team across the major 5 leagues in Europe has done before. The big upset against Ajax this last Tuesday in the Champions League quarter-finals didn't prevent the Bianconeri from focusing on today's match and even a very early visitor's goal didn't throw the champions off the rail. If you've had the chance to choose a bookmaker and bet on Cristiano Ronaldo scoring this weekend, you may need to try again next Saturday against Inter, since CR7 played the whole 90 minutes but didn't find the back of the net. It ended up being Alex Sandro who scored the equaliser and later in the second half, Pezzella's own goal gave Juve the decisive lead.

That's 8 in a row now...
Juventus won the 35th Serie A title in their history and this year's silverware was their 8th consecutive league trophy. Their only rival within borders has been Napoli, but even the Sicilian side couldn't keep up with the pace and is currently 20 points behind the Italian champions.
It was the first year Cristiano Ronaldo played in the Italian league and it was also his first league title in the country. The Portuguese superstar has now won a total of 6 domestic league title: 3 Premier Leagues (England); 2 La Liga (Spain); 1 Serie A (Italy). As expected, Ronaldo became the first player in history to have won a league title in the 3 most competitive championships in Europe (England, Spain and Italy).
Not everything were roses in Turin though... The wounds from the elimination against Ajax were still fresh and it's not like winning the Serie A year after year still excites every single fan in the stands. It's almost as if winning the league became an obligation nowadays and most of the expectations are lying in the UEFA Champions League.
Winning the Serie A became minimum services for Juve...
Fiorentina comfortable position in the Serie A table (11th) allowed them to approach this game without any type of pressure, as they're too far from finishing inside any European position and they're also safe from relegation. They were the ones breaking the deadlock very early in the first half, when a good attacking play on the right ended up with a loose ball falling to Milenkovic, and the Serbian obviously didn't hesitate in his finish. It definitely wasn't the start Massimilliano Allegri had in mind ahead of this game and Fiorentina still earned at least a couple more good chances to increase the lead in the minutes after...
Juventus' reaction was ignited by an unusual player, as Alex Sandro equalised the game from a header around the 37th minute in the first half. The Brazilian left-back scored his first goal of the season and his 10th goal in the league since he joined Juventus in the summer of 2015. His header from a Miralem Pjanic's corner was very well placed and it allowed the Bosnian to earn his 5th assist in the league this season.
The 1-1 draw at half-time wasn't good enough for the Bianconeri though and they went after a second goal straight after the break. That goal would eventually arrive in the 53rd minute, when a Cristiano Ronaldo sprint on the right completely disorganized Fiorentina's defence. The former Real Madrid forward sent a low cross already inside the box and saw it getting deflected by Germán Pezzella, who ended up beating his own goal keeper. Juve would hold on to the narrow 1-goal lead like they've done so many times throughout the years and they sealed the deal for the Serie A title this season with still 5 games left to be played...
