All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs AC Milan:
First trophy of the season
A total of 22 points mark the difference between Juventus and AC Milan in the Serie A standings, but with a trophy on the line and in a single game decision, everything can happen. The Rossoneri knew they had to play a perfect game in order to shake Juventus' confidence and get them into trouble. The plan was to defend well and eventually capitalise on the few chances they knew that would arrive, but not only they failed to keep a clean sheet as they've also failed to find the back of the net throughout the 90 minutes of the game.
All around, it was a good and competitive game the one we watched in Jeddah this evening. Juventus dominated most of the game, but that doesn't really mean they had their opponent contained in a way they certainly would have wanted to. Nevertheless, it's a win that earns Juventus an Italian Super Cup title and it certainly has a very special meaning for a player like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the chance to celebrate his first trophy since he moved to Italy.
After a goalless first half where Juventus clearly had the best chances to score (including a disallowed goal to Matuidi in the 34th minute), the key moment in this final was saved for the second half...
Ronaldo shows how it's done...
Cristiano Ronaldo had been threatening to score against Donnarumma since the first half and he would finally get the better of him near the 61st minute of the game, when a great cross from Pjanic on the left found the Portuguese forward alone in the box. CR7 showed his usual killer instinct in a situation like this and put his team on the lead with a very close header. 1-0 to Juventus and from that point forward everything became even more difficult to Milan.
In the remaining half an hour of the game, AC Milan struggled to put pressure on Juventus and the only team who ended up being close to score were actually the "Old Lady". It didn't take too long for the referee would blow his whistle for the last time and Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates exploded in joy as they celebrated Juventus's first title of the season. In his post-match statements, the former Real Madrid left an exciting promise...
Ronaldo: "I got my first title with Juventus and I'm very happy with it! This is only the beginning", promised the 33-year old forward before dedicating today's win to his loved ones. "I want to dedicate this goal to the whole team, my family, friends and everyone in the world who support Juventus".
