Cristiano Ronaldo plays 30 minutes in Bologna

Juventus are through to the next round of the Coppa Italia, after beating Bologna by two goals earlier this Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo, who started on the bench, saw his teammates Bernardeschi and Moise Kean scoring a goal each.

It wasn't much of a fight, with the Italian champions visiting Bologna and easily leaving town with the ticket to the next round of the Italian Cup. Juventus earned a 2-0 win this Saturday, in a game where Massimiliano Allegri benched multiple key players, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Dybala. Without his main stars on the pitch, the Vecchia Signora had to rely on Bernardeschi and Kean to make the difference tonight. Juve will soon travel to Saudi Arabia and prepare their Supercoppa title game against AC Milan, scheduled for next Wednesday.

The much needed rotation

It was the first game of the year for Juventus, but Massimiliano Allegri recognized the importance of giving some rest to several of his crucial players straight away. One of them was obviously Cristiano Ronaldo, who would only play the last 30 minutes of the game, when Juventus was already controlling and leading the game by two goals...

The Old Lady lined up with Szczesny in goal and a back four formed by Mattia De Sciglio, Bonucci, Chiellini and Spinazzola. In midfield, Emre Can, Pjanic and Sami Khedira were tasked with the job of dominating possession and dictating the pace of the game. More upfront, Bernardeschi and Douglas Costa took the wings, while Moise Kean, the 18-year old forward that was loaned to Verona last season, was given the opportunity to play in the centre forward position.

All set for a game where difficulties were expected. Juventus knew that slipping today would result on them getting knocked out of the Copa, but Allegri showed his confidence in the group and it paid off.

Two goals were enough to go through

The opener arrived still inside the first 10 minutes of the first half, when a long ball sent into Bologna's box ended up causing a big mess-up between the hosts' goalkeeper Angelo Costa and the centre defender Danilo. The ball fell of Angelo's hands when he clashed with his teammate and Bernardeschi was happy to see it bouncing in front of him before turning around and quickly trying to hit the target. Everyone was still out of position in Bologna's defence and Bernardeschi's shot went into the back of the net to put Juventus in the driving seat.

The "Rossoblu" tried to react, but invariably failed to give the best follow-up to their attacking plays. Juventus would get their second goal shortly after the break and a few minutes before Allegri started making some changes in his team. Douglas Costa picked up a pass near one of the edges of Bologna's box, cutted inside as he looked for a more favorable position to strike with his left foot, but saw his shot blocked by two defenders in front of him. Luckily, the ball fell for the youngster Moise Kean, who easily slotted it into the back of the net to extend the lead to 2 goals. It was also Keane's first goal this season.

With the 2-goal lead that allowed the visitors to be more comfortable in the game, Allegri talked with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench and decided to give the Portuguese player some playing minutes this weekend by subbing him in around the 62th minute. Unfortunately, the former Real Madrid and Manchester United superstar didn't have much impact on the minutes he played in this game, but he'll certainly be fit to start against AC Milan, next Wednesday evening.
