22.12.2018 » Juventus 1-0 AS Roma. A big win before Christmas!
There were great expectations in Turin for this weekend's game between Juventus and AS Roma, as some believed the Italian champions could be surprised by their visitors and concede their first loss of the season in the Serie A. They were wrong though and the Vecchia Signora defeated the Roman side 1-0 to preserve their 8-point lead over Napoli on the top of the Serie A. The only goal in this match took place in the 35th minute of the first half, when Mario Mandzukic used his head to finish off a long cross from Mattia De Sciglio and give the home side a very precious lead. Cristiano Ronaldo didn't score tonight, but he did have several good chances to increase his goal tally in the league.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs AS Roma:
A well deserved lead before the break
Juventus not only defeated AS Roma tonight, but they have also secured another clean sheet in the league. The last time the Italian champions conceded a goal dates back to November 3, in a game against Cagliari. The Vecchia Signora have the best defence in the Serie A, after having conceded only 8 goals in 17 games played so far...
Without Barzagli, Cancelo and Cuadrado, all of them injured and unavailable to give their contribute in tonight's game, the hosts showed the usual consistency at the back and managed to control Roma's attacking intents throughout the game. Bonucci and Chiellini showed once again how reliable they can be and they were excellent at commanding the defense, as well as making Szczesny's work a lot more easy of course.
The Italian champions entered this game determined and chasing the goal, as chances started piling up until the deadlock was broken in the 35th minute of the first half. Juventus' high pressure on the right wing allowed De Sciglio to recover a loose ball and the Italian full-back didn't lose time to put in a long cross into the far post. Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Mandzukic were inside the box waiting for the cross, but it would be the Croatian attacking it and heading the ball into the back of the net. Juventus were up by one with the half-time break just around the corner...
Ronaldo had 9 attempts to score...
Cristiano Ronaldo tried to score in multiple occasions, but for one reason or another, the ball didn't went in tonight. The former Real Madrid star even tried to score from a bicycle kick in one of the many attempts he had, but it just wasn't meant to be. Ronaldo finished the game with a total of 9 shots!
The 1-0 doesn't really makes justice to what happened on the pitch, as Juventus dominated their opponent and created enough chances to leave this game with a more comfortable win. That wasn't possible, but Massimiliano Allegri will certainly be happy with the 3 points and another great display of consistency from his players. Juve now hold a 8-point lead over 2nd placed Napoli and are 16 points clear of 3rd placed Inter Milan.
It's Christmas time now, but the Serie A will be returning to action next Wednesday. Juventus will be travelling to Atalanta in what should be a complicated fixture for the Old Lady.
