06.11.2018 » Why did Cristiano Ronaldo join Juventus?
Although Cristiano Ronaldo had to wait a little while to hit the back of the net with Juventus since this summer's move, his recent goals against Empoli have proved that the Portuguese star is set to help the Italian team continue their phenomenal form in the Serie A. The Vecchia Signora are still unbeaten this season, with 10 wins out of 11 games in the league and a perfect record of 3 wins in 3 games in the UEFA Champions League, prior to this Wednesday's clash against Manchester United in Turin. But whilst Juventus are undoubtedly one of the most iconic European football clubs, there are still many people who are surprised about Cristiano Ronaldo's choice of club.
Cristiano Ronaldo - Juventus forward:
What forced Ronaldo out of Madrid?
The Italian club football is still feeling the effects of multiple match fixing scandals from nearly a decade ago, and although the Serie A is one of the most exciting and fiercely contested football leagues in the world, it still lags behind the Spanish La Liga and the English Premier League according to UEFA's league coefficient.
Ronaldo spent nine glorious years at Real Madrid and was on record as stating that he wanted to end his career at the Santiago Bernabéu. But despite his phenomenal goal-scoring record with the Spanish side, it seems that the club's president, Florentino Perez, stalled Ronaldo's new contract and so the CR7 saw no option but to look elsewhere.
In addition to this, there were alarming feelings that all was not well at the Real Madrid camp. Ever since their legendary manager, Zinedine Zidane, announced his departure, it looks like the side's fortunes have taken a downturn with a relatively lacklustre 2017/18 season seeing Real Madrid finishing an embarrassing 17 points behind their fierce La Liga rivals, Barcelona. Plus, it should also be noted that Real Madrid had a fairly old squad, and so it looks like Ronaldo might have jumped ship before the club's decline became too evident...
CR7 didn't hesitate in signing for juve
Whilst there were many teams who would have leapt at the chance to sign such a legendary goalscorer, not all of them had the financial clout to afford a player of Ronaldo's stature. But as Juventus are one of the top ten wealthiest clubs in the world, it seems that they managed to find the staggering €100 million transfer fee.
Ronaldo was quoted as saying that "Juventus is one of the best clubs in the world, it was a long-thought out move, but it was an easy decision to join the best club in Italy and a very important step for my career", and it seems that his move might be based on his desire to pick up more as-yet unclaimed trophies with a relatively youthful side. On the other hand, it look as if Real Madrid has already been feeling the downside of losing a player of Ronaldo's caliber...
We asked the team at the https://openodds.com betting resource what they thought about Ronaldo's chances with Juventus and they said that most bookies like BetVictor are putting up strong odds for Juventus to win this season's Serie A title, and it looks like Ronaldo is keen to get his hands on the Italian league trophy."
In addition to this, we can't forget that Juventus have been painfully unlucky in European football over the past few years. But with a man of Ronaldo's stature in their ranks, they are looking like they could odds-on to pick up the Champions League title for the first time since 1996.Cristiano Ronaldo next game for Juventus is on November 7 of 2018 against Man Utd.
