15.10.2016 » Betis 1-6 Real Madrid. Getting back on the horse!
We're back on track! Real Madrid have beaten Betis by 6 goals to 1 tonight at the Benito Villamarin and finally got to know the taste of winning after 4 consecutive draws. Coming off this October's international break, Zidane hoped his men had the chance to clear their minds and return with a different dynamic and attitude than the one they had been showing over the last few weeks. Judging by the numbers and the level of Madrid's performance this Saturday night, it appears that was precisely what happened. The Merengues marked the difference with strong numbers, thanks to goals scored by Varane, Benzema, Marcelo, Isco and Cristiano Ronaldo. Many had already predicted Ronaldo would continue his hot streak in front of goal after his 5 goals in 2 games for Portugal earlier this month.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Betis:
It was a convincing performance from Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates, who finally turned things around for Real Madrid and got back on the winning track. Zidane lined up his strongest eleven available at this moment, replacing the injured Sergio Ramos with Varane and Luka Modric with Kovacic. The team never lost its identity and put on a show as they ran over a disorganized Betis side.
The deadlock was broken very early in the first half, when Varane headed in a perfect cross from the German midfielder, Toni Kroos. The Merengues started the match with the right foot and they couldn't have asked for a better start than this coming off 4 straight draws in all competitions.
The 2-0 arrived near the 31st minute of the first half, when Toni Kroos stole possession deep inside Betis' own half, just before leaving it over for Benzema on the left so the Frenchman could hit the back of the net and put the Merengues on a more comfortable lead.
But Zidane's men weren't in the mood to slow down with their intensity just yet... Just 8 minutes following Benzema's goal, the Frenchman got involved in his team's third goal when he saw his shot from outside the box rebounding to Marcelo. The Brazilian left back, who returned from injury this weekend, controlled the ball instinctively with his right shoulder to then finish it off with his left foot. 3-0 to Madrid and we still weren't done for the half...
The 4-0 came on just before the break, in what was one of those brilliant counter plays that every youngster should watch and rewatch so he may learn from. The fast counter was initiated by Pepe, who decided how it started and then how it would end. The 33-year old showed us all how a defender can sometimes participate in his own team's counters and after being assisted by Cristiano Ronaldo in the far corner, he allowed Isco to score his first of the night against an empty net. Brilliant stuff from the Merengues!
Betis would still cut down the lead in the beginning of the second half when Cejudo found himself 1-on-1 with Navas, but Real Madrid were decided to leave the Benito Villamarin with a large win and still scored another couple of goals. Their fifth goal was a terrific curled shot from Isco near the edge of the box after a Ronaldo assist and the final numbers for the night were written down when Cristiano Ronaldo ended his 3-game goal drought in La Liga and scored from a strong right footed strike. Next week, it's time for the Champions League to return and for Real Madrid to host Legia Warsaw at the Bernabéu.
