07.10.2016 » Portugal 6-0 Andorra. A walk in the park for the European champions

Cristiano Ronaldo celebrates for Portugal

Portugal found no difficulties to beat Andorra 6-0 this Friday night in Aveiro, mostly thanks to a poker of goals from the nation's hero, Cristiano Ronaldo. Cancelo and André Silva scored the other 2 goals for the Portuguese National Team.

It didn't take Portugal that much effort to wipe away Andorra in Aveiro last night and the numbers basically speak for themselves. The Portuguese National Team beat the visitors with a clear 6-0 win and earned the first points in their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, following their 2-0 defeat against Switzerland last month. The MVP of the night was Cristiano Ronaldo, who made his first appearance for Portugal since the EURO 2016 final against France, when he had to come off the pitch injured. The Real Madrid superstar scored a poker of 4 goals and would still see Cancelo and the debutant André Silva adding their names to the scoresheet.

Total domination... That's the best way we could find to describe what happened this Friday in Portugal 6-0 Andorra. Not that we should have expected something different than this, but Fernando Santo's men took this game with the proper competitive attitude and it paid off.

Portugal couldn't have asked for a better start, as Cristiano Ronaldo, returning to the team after a 3-month hiatus, banged 2 goals in the first 4 minutes of the game. The first of them a left-footed strike inside the penalty and following a rebound off a corner kick and the second one a free header from a Ricardo Quaresma assist. We still hadn't crossed the 5th minute and the game pretty much looked settled by then already...

The 3-0 was the result of a good combination between Bernardo Silva and João Cancelo, with the Valencia right-back finishing off with a low strike to the near post. This has been Cancelo's 2nd cap and also his second goal for the Portuguese National Team.

Both teams headed back into the locker rooms knowing that the story of the game wouldn't change much from that point onward. Nevertheless, there was at least one man decided not to slow down just yet...

Cristiano Ronaldo reached his hat-trick just two minutes after the second half started, this time through a perfect finish from an André Gomes cross. The Barcelona midfielder didn't make things easy for the Portuguese forward with his strong cross, but CR7 showing his goal instinct and hammered it into the back of the net in a killer first-touch finish.

There would still be time for Ronaldo to score his fourth goal of the night, his second using his left foot. We were down to the 68th minute of the game, when Quaresma cross to the far post found Fonte's head, who then passed it back for Ronaldo to score in another first touch strike.

The final score was set by FC Porto's forward André Silva, who converted his chance when a rebound from a Quaresma free-kick fell near his feet. It was a dream debut for the 20-year old youngster, who kicked off his National Team journey the best way possible.
