13.03.2016 » Las Palmas 1-2 Real Madrid. Two headers delivered the 3 points

Cristiano Ronaldo raises his hand to celebrate Sergio Ramos goal against Las Palmas

Real Madrid left the Gran Canaria stadium with the 3 points in the bag, but the win was only sealed near the end of the game, after a crucial header from Casemiro. Sergio Ramos had scored the opener earlier in the first half, but Las Palmas never gave up and made the game extremely difficult for Real Madrid.

The goals came from some quite unusual scorers for Real Madrid, but at the end of they day, the truth is that they still count as any other. Zinedine Zidane's men pulled off a late 2-1 win in their trip to Las Palmas this Sunday night, thanks to goals from Sergio Ramos and Casemiro. The Merengues scored first, but then allowed Las Palmas to build some momentum and get back in the game in the last 10 minutes of the game. The equalizer sparked a strong reaction from the visitors though and Casemiro found the back of the net following another corner-kick play and another well placed header. Cristiano Ronaldo couldn't score tonight despite having had a couple good chances to put his name on the board.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Las Palmas:

Mateo Kovacic's and Real Madrid's blushes were saved by a late header from Casemiro, helping Los Blancos to a 1-2 victory over Las Palmas. It was yet another struggle away from home for Madrid, Zidane's side have contiuosusly looked an entirely different entity away from home. Thankfully, this time they were able to get the 3 points.

Most of the appreciation must again go Keylor Navas. The Costa Rican was everywhere, saving Real Madrid time and time again. And it wasn't long before he was called into action in this one... Las Palmas started well as Real Madrid struggled to keep pace and Navas was the only thing that could stop Willian Jose's early shot after a rare Luka Modric giveaway.

Real Madrid themselves missed a few chances early on, Ronaldo in particular spurning a potential 1-on-1. But they would still grab the lead midway through the half, thanks to a header by Sergio Ramos off an Isco corner. It was the captain's second goal of the season and Madrid were up 1-0 at half-time.

But Las Palmas were not to be deterred and in the second half they would keep the energy up. The canaries seemed to get first to every 50/50 ball as Madrid struggled to create more chances.

There were a few moments of controversey however. A wrongly given indirect freekick in the 6-yard box could have doomed Los Merengues, but they were able to deflect it and keep the 1-0 lead.

Later on however, it would all come crashing down. A disastrious mistake by Kovacic inadverantly lead to a 1-on-1 for Willian Jose. Seeming to have learned his lesson, he decided to go for the delicate chip over an onrushing Ramos and Navas. As the ball nestled into the back of the net, one could feel the air dissapate from the Madrid attach.

But what seemed like a sure draw quickly turned into a moment of jubilation, as Casemiro nodded home a well placed header from a corner kick few minutes later. An excellent goal for the man who's been in the headlines lately for his good play in the center of the park. It will be interesting to see how Zinedine Zidane uses him from now on.

Still, Madrid did look without ideas in attack. For such a talented team, there are far too many crosses into the box. There's something missing with this team and it's hard to pinpoint it. Zidane might not really be able to put his stamp on this team until the summer comes in...
