17.01.2016 » Real Madrid 5-1 Sporting Gijon. The BBC took care of business
It looks like Real Madrid's wrecking machine is back with Zidane now at the helm and the new victim was a very docile Sporting Gijón side, who just left the Bernabéu demolished by a 5-1 beating. Gareth Bale, who ended up picking up an injury and come out at half-time, scored the opener with another great header. Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema joined the action shortly after, with both scoring a brace to put Madrid five goals up against a very soft Gijón side. With today's two goals, Ronaldo moves up in La Liga's Pichichi standings on a total of 16 goals, one more than Barcelona's Neymar and Suárez who only play later today against Athletic Bilbao.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Sporting Gijón:
Zinedine Zidane's second game in charge was another 5-goal romp, as the BBC were in fine form dispatching Sporting Gijon 5-1, a team Madrid had drew 0-0 with in the first fixture of the season. A series of early strikes by the BBC killed off the match in the first 13 minutes and the Merengues added two more before the end of the half to head into the break with 5 goals in their favor.
The goals started early, an in-form Gareth Bale headed in a Toni Kroos cross after 7 minutes, it was the Welshman's 13th league goal of the season. Two minutes after, Ronaldo would score his first, with a brilliant left-footed volley into the roof of the net. CR7 spun around brilliantly after a smart pass from Benzema, before hitting the shot with his weaker foot.
Almost immediately after Madrid were up by three and it was Benzema's turn to grab his goal. Finishing off a cross, the Frenchman contorted his body and delivered a sublime bicycle kick that flew past the keeper and into the net.
18th minute and another goal, this time it was Ronaldo again finishing off a Dani Carvajal cross. The Spaniard, who was again brilliant, was a constant thorn in Gijon's side all game long and his return to the side is paying major dividends.
And it would be five on the 41st minute, after some skillful work from Isco at the edge of the box. The little magician dinked the ball past two defenders before laying it off to Benzema, who easily finished past the keeper.
Gijon would grab one back in the second half, as Madrid took their foot off the pedal and saw out the match. The only blemish on the match was the injuries to both Bale and Benzema. Both limped off and their current medical status is unclear. But again, Madrid looked great under their new coach. They may not be playing the hardest matches at the moment, but there is a renewed sense of optimism at the Bernabéu and it's already showing on the pitch...
