20.12.2015 » Real Madrid 10-2 Rayo Vallecano. A somewhat deceiving result...
Real Madrid ran over Rayo Vallecano in a 10-2 thrashing this Sunday afternoon at the Santiago Bernabéu and will now go into the upcoming Christmas break with the feeling of a job well done! The scoreline however, can be a bit deceiving for those who didn't actually watch today's clash. Rayo brought the fight to Madrid early in the game and was already beating the hosts 1-2 inside the first quarter of an hour. The visitors would then see 2 red cards, the first on 14th minute and second in the 28th, and basically the fate game changed completely and things turned out to be a lot more easier for the Merengues. Benítez's men started punishing Rayo with goal after goal and for the first time since the 1959-60 season, they got to a double digit scoreline. Danilo got one, Cristiano Ronaldo got two, Benzema three and Gareth Bale four.

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Rayo Vallecano:
Ten goals, but for many this will feel like an empty victory. Real Madrid romped to a 10-2 victory over city rivals Rayo Vallecano in the Madrid derby tonight, with goals from Danilo and a combination of 9 strikes from the BBC giving Los Blancos an 8-goal difference victory. However and for many fans out there, the match will be marred by some questionable refereeing decisions that essentially ended this game as a contest before it could really get started...
The match itself got off to a blistering start, but few would have predicted after the first ten minutes that this game would end so drastically different. An early goal for Danilo from the right side of the box got Madrid underway after 3 minutes, but only 10 minutes after that, the Merengues would already be behind. Goals from Amaya and Jozabed, both headers, put Rayo back in front in rapid fashion. It was a shocking first 12 minutes and an eerie sense of worry sped across the Bernabéu.
Soon after it would all change, as Tito's horrific challenge on Toni Kroos saw him expelled on 15 minutes, the first of two red cards that would deplete a Rayo, that was up to that point of the match a formidable threat. Gareth Bale would tie the game in the 25th with a well-placed header from a Danilo cross. Just the first of many for the Welshman on the day.
At 2-2 and down to 10 men, Rayo's chances were slim but they still existed in some form or fashion. Then came the hammer blow, a dubious second yellow card and penalty on Raul Baena. Baena was off, truthfully his first offense a few minutes prior was even debatable, and Rayo were down to nine and facing a Ronaldo penalty. It was a penalty he converted and Real Madrid were off to the races.
Gareth Bale, Ronaldo and Benzema would go on to score the remaining 7 goals. Bale led the way with 4, the first time he scored that many goals in a single game. The Welshman was dynamic on the day and was the man of the match. Ronaldo's second came from a well placed header after a James Rodriguez cross. And Benzema, the last to score of the BBC, would put together a series of smart finishes for his hat- trick, also his first ever for Madrid in La Liga. It was a great match for the BBC to regain their confidence ahead of the winter break, but for many the match was ruined early in the first half by some of the referee's decisions.
