09.05.2014 » Cristiano Ronaldo: "Neymar can become the best player in the World"
Cristiano Ronaldo had nothing but kind words for Barcelona's wonderkid Neymar Jr, as he admitted that the Brazilian star has what it takes to one day become the best football player in the World. In a short interview granted to SporTV earlier this week, most of the topics covered were naturally about this summer's FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be hosted in Brazil and judging from Ronaldo's words, the Portuguese National Team is extremely confident in receiving a very warm welcoming from the Brazilian people. Portugal will play against Germany, Ghana and the United States in Group G, while Brazil will lock horns with Croatia, Mexico and Cameroon in Group A.
Cristiano Ronaldo interview to SporTV:
Cristiano Ronaldo: "Neymar is as a great football player. I think he has been showing that he has a great potential for the future and I'm sure he'll keep developing as footballer. It's true he struggled a bit to adapt to Barcelona in the beginning, but I have no doubts that he'll be able to become one of the best players in the game, if not the best player in the World!", stated the Real Madrid superstar, who already scored 50 goals for the Merengues this season.
In his first season in Europe, Neymar had 40 appearances for Barcelona and scored a total of 15 goals. 9 of those were in the Spanish League, 1 in the Spanish Super Cup, another in the Copa del Rey and 4 in the UEFA Champions League. His numbers will most likely improve in the seasons to come and now that he has already gone through the classic period of adaptation from South-American football to European football, there are only reasons to be optimistic about what the future holds for him.
Ronaldo himself struggled a bit to perform at his best during his first season in Real Madrid. His stats were quite remarkable already (33 goals in 35 games), but they would only get better in the years ahead. Nevertheless, both Ronaldo and Neymar are highly motivated to shine in the upcoming FIFA World Cup, as they are the ones carrying in their shoulders most of their nations' hopes to make History in Brazil...
Cristiano Ronaldo: "We're not the favorites, but we're obviously going to try to win the World Cup. We are aware that we were drawn in a very difficult and competitive group, probably the strongest in the tournament in my opinion. We'll have to think step by step... The first game against Germany will be very important, but then taking on both Ghana and the United States won't be any easier for sure. Let's just wait and see...", anticipated the former Manchester United player, roughly 35 days away from the World Cup kick off on June 12.
Ronaldo: "I expect us to count with a great support from the Brazilian people in Brazil. They are our "brother country", we speak the same language and it's definitely going to be a World Cup with a special meaning for us. Obviously, if we are to meet Brazil during this tournament's latter stages, I hope it only happens in the final!", concluded the 29-year old forward.
