26.04.2014 » Real Madrid 4-0 Osasuna. Ronaldo warms up for Munich with 2 rockets
Carlo Ancelotti couldn't have asked for a softer opponent ahead of next week's Bayern Munchen vs Real Madrid second leg clash for the Champions League semi-finals, as the Merengues hosted Osasuna and dispatched them with a clean 4-0 win. The man of the match was Cristiano Ronaldo, who got to score two superb goals, as well as warm up his engines for next Tuesday's big game. He would get substituted later in the second half, but Real Madrid didn't slow down much afterwards and still scored two more goals to complete the home beating. The third goal was scored by Sergio Ramos, while the last one came in by Carvajal, who scored his second goal of the season for the club. This weekend still has plenty of action left for tomorrow, with both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona having tough away fixtures in Valencia and Villarreal respectively, but also with what will surely be an exciting Liverpool vs Chelsea encounter at Anfield Road. If the Reds take the 3 points at home, the Premier League title won't probably slip away from them anymore...

All Cristiano Ronaldo actions vs Osasuna:
As promised a few days ago, Ancelotti did a few changes to Real Madrid's starting eleven, but kept the team very competitive and still lining up with several key figures. While players like Gareth Bale, Xabi Alonso, Pepe and Benzema were left resting either on the bench or in the stands, the Italian manager didn't spare others like Cristiano Ronaldo, Modric or Di María. This Saturday's night opponent didn't seem to demand a very strong team in order to be beaten and as soon as the game started, the expectations were confirmed...
The match basically started with Cristiano Ronaldo opening the can in a way which only he is capable of. We had roughly 6 minutes played in the first half when the former Manchester United winger picked up a very long pass near the left side line, cutted inside as he moved forward a few more meters and then released one of his trademark strong shots with an unpredictable trajectory. Lucky for him, the ball ended up going to the far post and there was not much that Osasuna's goalkeeper could have done there to attempt to block it....
Osasuna managed to hold off Real Madrid's attacking spree for the rest of the first half, but quite simply failed to deal with the Merengues' intents when Cristiano Ronaldo pulled off another brilliant moment shortly after the break. In a very similar move to the one he had already produced in the first goal, the 29-year old forward came inside from the left and this time went straight for power as he picked the top right corner of Osasuna's goal. What then happened was that a true rocket came out of Ronaldo's right boot and the ball only stopped going in an upwards trajectory when it hit the inside of the side net. It was most likely one of Cristiano Ronaldo's best goals of his career so far...
The hosts reached their third goal of the night near the 60th minute of the game and this time the news are that it wasn't Ronaldo scoring it, but rather Sergio Ramos. The Spanish defender got involved in an attacking play as he had already done before for quite a few times in this very same game, and when he saw the cross coming in from Angel Di María's left foot, he basically knew his close-range header wasn't going to be stopped... That was Ramos second goal this season and his 43rd for Real Madrid since he joined the club from Sevilla, back in 2005.
Real Madrid's right-back, Dani Carvajal, got to finish off Osasuna inside the last 10 minutes of the game, after responding with a header to a great assist from Isco. The Spanish midfielder, who has been getting a lot more playing minutes in the last weeks, is certainly living up to the expectations put on him by both Ancelotti and the Madridismo in general and has already contributed with 11 goals and 6 assists this season. It's when Real Madrid plays on a 4-4-2 formation that Isco definitely seems to feel more at ease...
With tonight's brace, Cristiano Ronaldo has now reached the 30-goal mark in La Liga, opening the gap to Atletico Madrid's Diego Costa into a 3-goal difference (27) and leaving Barcelona's Lionel Messi behind with 26 goals. The fact that Ancelotti decided to play Ronaldo only for 60 minutes of this Saturday's game is a good indication that the Portuguese forward will probably line-up against Bayern Munich next Tuesday. The former Chelsea manager is therefore expected to restore the BBC attacking partnership by sending Ronaldo in, next to Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema.
Real Madrid line-up vs Osasuna:
Goalkeeper: Diego López
Defenders: Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Varane, Nacho
Midfielders: Illarramendi, Modric, Isco
Attackers: Di María, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema.
